Comparison of voice activity detection algorithms for VoIP

چکیده
We discuss techniques for Voice Activity Detection (VAD) for Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). VAD aids in saving bandwidth requirement of a voice session thereby increasing the bandwidth efficiently. In this paper, we compare the quality of speech, level of compression and computational complexity for three time-domain and three frequency-domain VAD algorithms. Implementation of time-domain algorithms is computationally simple. However, better speech quality is obtained with the frequency-domain algorithms. A comparison of merits and demerits along with the subjective quality of speech after removal of silence periods is presented for all the algorithms. A quantitative measurement of speech quality for different algorithms is also

A New Algorithm for Voice Activity Detection Based on Wavelet Packets (RESEARCH NOTE)
Speech constitutes much of the communicated information; most other perceived audio signals do not carry nearly as much information. Indeed, much of the non-speech signals maybe classified as ‘noise’ in human communication. The process of separating conversational speech and noise is termed voice activity detection (VAD). This paper describes a new approach to VAD which is based on the Wavelet ...
متن کاملVAD Techniques for Real-Time Speech Transmission on the Internet
We discuss techniques for Voice Activity Detection (VAD) for Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). VAD aids in reducing bandwidth requirement of a voice session thereby using bandwidth efficiently. Such a scheme would be implemented in the application Layer. Thus the VAD is independent of the lower layers in the network stack [3]. In this paper, we compare four time-domain VAD algorithms in term...
متن کاملDeveloping Fuzzy Models for Estimating the Quality of VoIP
This paper presents a novel method for modeling the one-way quality prediction of VoIP, non-intrusively. Intrusive measures of voice quality suffer from common deficiency that is the need of reference signal for evaluating the quality of voice. Owing to this lack, a great deal of effort has been recently devoted for modeling voice quality prediction non-intrusively according to quality degradat...
متن کاملSteganography in Audio Files by Entropy using FEC as Reed–Solomon of VOIP Streams
In this paper introduce a novel technique to identify the voice (active frames) and silent regions (inactive frames) of a speech stream very much suitable for VoIP calls. Thus here the proposed a better voice activity detection based on the entropy algorithm. High-capacity steganography algorithm for embedding data in the inactive frames . Then inactive frames are encoded by G. 723. 1 source co...
متن کاملVoIP: A comprehensive survey on a promising technology
The Internet has burgeoned into a worldwide information superhighway during the past few years, giving rise to a host of new applications and services. Among them, Voice over IP (VoIP) is the most prominent one. Beginning more as a frolic among computer enthusiasts, VoIP has set off a feeding frenzy in both the industrial and scientific communities and has the potential to radically change tele...
